Animal Reiki: Gentle Healing for Our Animal Companions
At Wings of Change, we offer Reiki as a supportive, non-invasive energy healing practice for animals of all kinds. Whether your companion is facing a medical challenge, adjusting to change, or nearing the end of life, Reiki can be a profound source of comfort and connection.

Animal Reiki is a complementary healing practice that works beautifully alongside traditional veterinary care, training, and rehabilitation. Reiki can be integrated into care plans with veterinarians, trainers, and shelter workers or offered on its own as a gentle, supportive practice for animals in any stage of life.
Why Reiki for Animals?
Reiki promotes deep relaxation, which allows the body, mind, and spirit to begin healing. For animals, this gentle energy work can help:
-
Ease anxiety and stress during vet visits, travel, thunderstorms, or fireworks.
-
Support recovery from illness, injury, or surgery by enhancing the body’s natural healing process.
-
Alleviate pain and reduce side effects from medications or treatments.
-
Provide emotional and physical comfort for animals with chronic or acute health issues.
-
Offer comfort and support during end-of-life transitions for both pets and their people.
-
Deepen trust and strengthen the heart connection between animal and caregiver, especially in rescued or traumatized pets.
Reiki also offers powerful support for working animals, such as service dogs, therapy animals, police or military K9s, horses, and farm animals, who often carry both physical strain and emotional stress. This gentle energy healing helps to ease muscular tension, promote faster recovery after intense activity, and calm the nervous system. By creating space for relaxation and renewal, Reiki helps these animals maintain balance, resilience, and overall well-being, so they can continue their important work with vitality and grace.
What to Expect in a Session
Animal Reiki sessions are calm, intuitive, and always guided by the animal’s comfort and readiness. Unlike traditional human sessions, animals are free to move about and engage with the energy in the way that feels most comfortable to them. Some may lie close to the practitioner, while others prefer to receive Reiki from a distance—both are equally effective. Physical contact is never required and is only offered if welcomed by the animal.
Sessions are held at The Red Barn in Durham, a peaceful setting designed to support relaxation and healing. A concierge Reiki service is also offered, bringing the session directly to your space. This can be especially helpful for horses, livestock, or animals experiencing mobility challenges, anxiety, or end-of-life transitions.
Each session typically lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, tailored to your animal’s unique needs and energy. Whether part of a broader wellness plan or a gentle, standalone experience, Reiki creates space for deep rest, energetic balance, and emotional support—on the animal’s terms, in the environment that feels best to them.
Reiki for Pet Loss & End-of-Life Transitions
Saying goodbye to a beloved animal companion is one of the most tender and heart-wrenching experiences we can go through. Our pets are our family. When it is time for them to transition, Reiki offers a gentle, sacred space to support both them and the humans who love them.
For animals nearing the end of life, Reiki can ease discomfort, reduce stress, and help them feel safe, loved, and at peace. It creates an environment of calm that allows them to settle more fully into their natural process, free of fear or restlessness. Reiki doesn’t force or interfere—it simply surrounds the animal with compassion, offering reassurance as they begin their transition.
For pet parents and families, Reiki can be just as healing. It provides emotional support through a time of anticipatory grief and helps create a space where connection can deepen—even in the final moments. Many people find comfort in knowing that their pet is at peace, and that they are not alone in navigating this incredibly vulnerable time.
After a pet has passed, Reiki can continue to be a powerful support for grief. It gently helps soothe the heart, bring a sense of comfort, and offer quiet moments of connection and reflection. It does not try to “move you on,” but simply walks beside you as you begin to carry your love in a new way.
If you are navigating the final stages of your animal companion’s life and feel that Reiki could offer support, we invite you to reach out. At Wings of Change, we are here to hold space for you and your beloved pet with care, presence, and compassion. To learn more or to schedule an end-of-life support session, please contact us. We are honored to walk with you during this difficult, yet sacred time.

Jules at Wings of Change has been a true blessing for both me and my support dog, Aurora. The Reiki sessions have helped Aurora relieve stress and release the stored negative energy that she absorbs daily while assisting me. I noticed a difference after just one session—she seemed more at ease and rejuvenated. Jules has a beautiful, calming presence and a deep connection with animals. I’m so grateful for the care and healing she’s brought into our lives.
